Hannah Castillo: Welcome to the Love Your Calm podcast. Mini meditations to help you slow down and find your balance in this fast-paced world.
Hello and welcome.
Several people reached out to me this week and the theme was the same I've been hearing in my practice as a counselor. A collective sense of overwhelm, a feeling of being stuck. People seem to be having difficulty even beginning to make space for their own self-care.
Let's use this week's practice to connect, breathe and begin to make space for whatever we may need today. Let's get started. Take a couple of moments to find a position that feels good for you. It might help to take a couple of gentle movements, maybe roll your shoulders back, gently move your head from side to side. Whatever feels good for you today. Once you're settled, consider closing your eyes if this feels safe for you. Or maybe just lower your gaze if that feels more comfortable.
As you begin to settle into your breath, bring your awareness to your body. Feel the surface beneath you, supporting you. With each inhale, imagine drawing in positive energy. And with each exhale, let go of anything no longer serving you, releasing any stress or distractions.
If it feels comfortable for you, I invite you to begin to visualize a beautiful open space in your mind. Maybe a quiet garden, a peaceful open field, or perhaps even a large sunlit room. However this space presents to you, picture this space as a sanctuary for your thoughts and feelings. Imagine it expanding with each breath you take, creating room for everything you truly need. As you breathe in, think of something you need right now. Maybe it's clarity, strength, connection, or even motivation. Whatever comes up for you, hold this thought in your mind as you continue to breathe into this space you have created.
With each exhale, release any obstacles that may be blocking you from receiving what you need.
Consider repeating this affirmation to yourself, either silently or out loud.
I make space for what I need.
I make space for what I need.
Give yourself permission to identify one way to work towards meeting this need today. One small step you can take.
Take a couple of rounds of breath here on your own, allowing this affirmation to really resonate within. I make space for what I need. And when you are ready, begin to shift your awareness back to the space around you. Take any movements you may need. And slowly, when it feels good for you, open your eyes. Carry this affirmation with you as you move through your day.
